Mother and Mary, part deux

This is a little shrine dedicated to my mother, Audrey, that I created in a cubby in my studio after her passing last year.  In the background you can see a photo of my mom when she was young, and in the foreground, a tiny little Virgen de Guadalupe that I bought somewhere, maybe when I was visiting Mexico.  I included it in this shrine as a symbol of my mom's faith.  She was a lifelong Catholic whose faith carried her through difficult times as well as the good times.  She stopped attending church a decade or two before her passing, but the faith burned brightly in her heart.  Maybe this is how I know that God is within us, and it is not necessary to be in a church to be a part of the spirit.  Doesn't Mom look so beautiful in the photo - so bright and full of the future before her!

This image of the Virgin included big roses.  As mentioned yesterday, the roses are significant in the legend of La Virgen de Guadalupe.  They also make me think of my mother's roses that grew outside her dining room window, and were always munched on my the deer who wandered around her neighborhood.  That colorful alebrije of an antelope could be one of those deer!
